My name is Shaylee Robertson, I'm eighteen years old, and I am a new resident of Colorful Colorado. I was born and raised in the small town of Winnemucca, NV; where my love for dogs became my dream for a career. I am working towards the goal of becoming a certified trainer and, with Teri's help, I am able to get even more experience towards that end. I can't wait to get the chance to meet some of you in person, but until then, here's a little bit more about me.

My love for dogs has been there for as long as I can remember. My childhood dog, Cheyanne, followed me everywhere and did everything with me. I wanted all my other dogs to be just like Cheyanne. So when I got my first puppy, Russell, a McNabb Border Collie, I tried to train him to be Cheyanne. However there was just one major problem. Russell was not Cheyanne! This is where the real training began. I not only had to train the dog but also train myself. Trying to ask two different dogs to be the same is like trying to ask a young girl to act more like her sister. It just doesn't work.
Around this time, Humboldt County sent out a list of all the 4H Clubs and programs to the schools. The one that caught my eye was Power Paws - Dog 4H! My mom had to tell me to sit down and breathe as I tried to tell her about it. With a big smile, all she could say was "We will make it work."
My first class was amazing, but also really awful. My dog was as excited as I was! He jumped out of the truck before I could get his leash on! From that moment on, I didn’t exist and my mission was to get him to pay attention to me instead of everyone and thing else that was going on around us. My dog training learning had begun!
Over the next seven years I participated in the Power Paws 4H Club. Soon after I started as a student, I moved to assisting my leader with teaching the others in 4H, as well as the adult class that she held. Being able to work with both kids and adults challenged me, and taught me how to teach people in a way that works for them and their dog.
I am very excited to have the opportunity to work with Teri at Angels in the Making. Again, I can’t wait to get the chance to meet you and your dogs in person. If you have any questions please give me a call or email me at any time!
